OUR TRIPS > DIVING

For wreck lovers or for divers seeking the PADI Wreck Diver certification we offer 3 wreck dives.

Two wrecks lie at the depth of 10 m/33 feet on a sandy bottom.

The third, the most famous on the island, lies near the Chankanaab crest reef. The wreck is a C-53 US Navy ship built in 1944 and used as a mine sweeper. It was later sold to the Mexican Government for use in rescue missions and against illegal trafficking.

Donated to the diving community, the ship was sunk in 1999 and lies on a sandy bottom at at 24 m/80 feet. The wreck is 12 m high, 10 m wide and 56 m long, and offers many easy points of access and exit for divers on a penetration dive profile.

The wreck hosts various sponges, a school of axe fish, giant king crabs and bristle worms. Large angel fish guard the main bridge, and dozens of garden eels peek up from the sandy bottom around the wreck. At the end of the dive, a great barracuda keeps divers company during their safety stop.
